Co-operation

Co-operation means working together. Without co-operation modern society could not exist. Co-operation has been seen at its best among farmers in the dry regions of Sri Lanka. In these areas, the fields have been irrigated. Without water, crops cannot be grown. It is impossible to supply the fields with water without first tapping streams higher up. It has been costly to build canals and dams.

For instance, the fields of A, B, and C have canals cut through them. A and B live up the valley. But they have not refused to let the canals taking water to C down the valley be built through their land. In times of drought, A does not take all the water for himself. He leaves enough water for his neighbours down the valley.

Such collaboration has made it possible to farm in dry lands.
Farmers have learned to grow crops even in the desert by working together.
